Early paintings 2010 - 2015 & Comment on works on paper and larger paintings after 2015.
The “early paintings” were made while a BFA student at The School of Visual Arts in New York City and an MFA student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. I am attracted to bright colored energetic paintings and it was natural for me to paint in an expressionist style. Imagery of horses was my main subject as I wanted to celebrate the wonderful relationship possible between horses and humans. I had some limited opportunity to ride horses between the age of eleven (11) and twenty (23).
I have not added my work since 2015 to the website preferring to have the originals seen in an exhibition before sharing them on the internet. Starting in 2015 to 2016 I worked on paper as a means of thinking about what I would do next with larger paintings. I considered both the narrative image and how my thinking had evolved regarding esthetic preference.
What followed, starting in 2017, was twenty nine (29) paintings that I am very gratified with. I love looking at these paintings that are the size of 60” X 48” or 48”X 60”. Since then I have continued to add to this group with some large landscapes (60” X 144”) that have the space for a more expansive narrative. These paintings celebrate friendship and love between women while also including the horse or horses as part of the narrative.
I now have two new thematic narrative directions in the works. More later about them as they evolve or become finished and exhibited.
